A Bit About Me
My Name is Elizabeth Lowe and I am standing to be your County Councillor in Birchwood. I would love to meet you, but due to COVID it’s unclear if we’re going to be able to talk on the doorstep safely before polls open in May, so I thought I’d give you a bit of an insight into who I am and what I stand for.
I moved to Lincoln 10 years ago and fell in love with the city. Lincoln is a unique place and deserves a strong voice on the County Council, but I feel that we are often overlooked by the County Council despite our historical importance and strong community ties.
Birchwood Deserves Better
Birchwood in particular is a vibrant and community focused area with beautiful green spaces. I want to work with community groups to protect this community spirit and our green spaces. I feel that Birchwood has been a hidden victim of the County Council’s failure to duel the A46 bypass, as so many people use Birchwood as a cut through when traffic on the bypass slows down. This is particularly harmful as high air pollution has been linked to childhood asthma and Birchwood is a hugely popular ward for people raising young families.
My background is in trade union activism and I led a large trade union branch at our local hospital and care homes during the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. Through this work I am used to supporting people through deeply uncertain times and responding to complex and fast changing information.
Some people reading this might not know what it means to be a trade union organiser, or how that would factor into the role of a councillor. I view my role as a union organiser as empowering ordinary workers to have a say in their workplace, this is something that I aspire to bring to the role of County Councillor. I will be your voice on issues important to you, and where there are different opinions amongst constituents I will strive to work with you to understand the best way forwards.
My pledges to you are as follows:
- To be YOUR voice on the County Council and welcome contributions from individual constituents and community groups.
- To form a partnership with the people providing services in Birchwood, whether they are directly employed by the council or community sector organisations commissioned through council contracts.
- To protect the services Birchwood constituents and their families rely on.
- Protect our green spaces and the quality of the air we breathe.
- To be available and open with you as my constituents.
I believe I can help Birchwood have a stronger voice on the County Council, grounded in the views and opinions of local residents and businesses.
